Language and Communication (CIED 312)

In my Language and Communication class, I learned a lot about how to professionally interact with my peers and others by having discussions in class and reading about it in our textbook. Our largest assignment was our lesson and observation participation assignment in a math class each placement we attended. We attended two, so I was at a first-grade school for 7 weeks where I did the assignment over ways to make ten. I then did one over ratios in a sixth-grade classroom during my 7 weeks there. Below is the attached assignment from the first-grade math lesson.

Elementary Math Methods (CIED 441)

In Elementary Math Methods we learned a lot about the ways to teach different math subjects with worthwhile tasks. In class we learned by creating our own activities with different readiness levels. We also touched on how to look at their assessments and put them into readiness levels. We also created board games for different standards we chose. These board games were later used during a before school program and taught by our own peers.

Creativity and Problem Solving (CIED 428)

In Creativity and Problem Solving, we learned a lot about ways to make worthwhile tasks based on the type of learning you want them to do. We learned about things such as place-based learning, project-based learning, and visual thinking strategies. For us to learn through experience, we broke apart something and made it into something new. My group took apart a heater and made it into a classroom decoration, based on the book "The Blue Boat" by Kersten Hamilton.

Field Experience (CIED 302)

I originally started my field experience with 7 weeks in a first-grade classroom. I had a lot of fun and was able to teach many lessons on phonics, assess their understanding, and grade papers. After those 7 weeks, I had 7 weeks with a sixth-grade classroom where I got to do a read aloud on Dia De Los Muertos. The students were asked to write about an artist that passed away in order to practice what it would like for a family member on their offrenda. Below I have a few examples from students!
