Intro to Education Assessment

In my assessment class I have learned a lot about summative and formative assessments including what they are and how to implement them. To really understand how formative assessments are implemented we were instructed to find them within two different videos displaying lessons over engineering. Below I have attached a document displaying my capabilities with identifying an assessment in a lesson, explaining how it was an assessment, and how it improves learning.

Primary Literacy

During Primary Literacy we were given the opportunity to visit an elementary school nearby and with the help of others, assess a student. We started with writing about ourselves and telling the student to write about themselves. Using the writing, we assessed what developmental writing level they were at, the traits of writing they displayed, and then used that information to discuss the writing and reading experiences that may help them to improve. (This will later be the literacy lesson plan when complete)

Social Studies Methods

In social studies I was able to learn a lot about the different subtopics within the subject and how to approach teaching them. We took field trips or had visitors to show us that multiple different techniques of teaching can be used to approach different topics. We taught lessons in our placement that reflected what we learned and attached is an assignment we used to see where the children are at with their knowledge on history. It was something we used to understand what they know and how we can help further their education.

Field Placement II

In Field II I was placed at Kreitner Elementary in Collinsville, Illinois with a fourth-grade classroom. I learned a lot about classroom management and how to create in depth lesson plans. I was taught to create lesson plans detailed enough that a substitute teacher could provide the lesson and to include higher-level thinking questions. Attached is a lesson I taught towards the end of the semester where I was able to use the skills taught to me. I also included the schedule for the classroom I was in, a final reflection of the placement, and an image of my responsibility form.

Seminar (2 of 4)

In seminar I created SMART goals for an overall view of the semester and for my content test preparation. Below you can see my goal for the semester. We focused on our EDA Dispositions that help us grow as teachers and how to correctly identify them in the classroom. We were given ways to help us prepare for our content test from a panel of year 2 education students who came in.
